USA Tops Australia at World’s Baseball

THUNDER BAY – A.J. Vanegas threw six innings and allowed just one run to propel the USA Baseball 18U National Team over Australia 4-2 Saturday in USA’s first game of the 2010 IBAF “AAA” (18U) World Junior Championships. Michael Lorenzen (Anaheim, Calif.) led Team USA with a pair of hits and RBI, improving the U.S. to 1-0 in pool play. A.J. Vanegas (Alameda, Calif.) earned the win pitching six strong innings allowing just one run on four hits with eight strikeouts. John Hochstatter (Danville, Calif.) earned the save tossing three innings and rendering just one run.
Lorenzen paced the U.S. attack with 2-for-2 performance, two walks and two RBI. Marcus Littlewood (Saint George, Utah) added two hits and one RBI, Tony Wolters (Vista, Calif.) added a hit and RBI to round out the U.S. attack.
