Team Australia won Silver at the 2010 Women’s World Cup, becoming Australia’s most successful national senior team at a World Cup, and cementing their place as a serious international contender.

In 2012, the team is filled with experience, rookies and first, as they take to the world stage once again, this time to claim the World Cup and turn green to gold.

For four players this will be their fifth World Cup, having first competed at the inaugural ten years ago which was also hosted by Canada.  Katie Gaynor, Shae Lillywhite, Sam Hamilton and Amy McCann will don the green and gold again, showing true commitment to the sport they love.

Six rookies will take to the diamond for Australia this year; Maddison Lennard, Stefanie Gaynor, Amanda Torrington, Brittany Hepburn, Erin Collins and Lauren McGrath, have been inspired by the senior experience to step up on the world stage.

Head Coach John Gaynor said that the team is looking fit, strong and faster than they have at this stage of preparation in previous years.

“The standard and level of baseball has increased in the team due to the senior player’s commitment to the 2012 World Cup” said Gaynor.

Team Australia will compete against Canada, Japan, USA, Netherlands, Venezuela, Cuba and Chinese Taipei, in a single round-robin format in the preliminary phase.  The top 4 teams will play an elimination round for gold, silver and bronze medals. 

All 36 round-robin and playoff games will be played at Telus Field, Edmonton's professional minor league stadium. 

This is the second Women's Baseball World Cup to be hosted in Edmonton.  In 2004 the first Women's Baseball World Cup was played there.
